Student Volunteers Needed

Whether you’re studying for A Levels, a degree or even a PhD, take a break from the books and do something completely different this summer by giving something back and volunteering.

Leading veterinary charity, PDSA, has many exciting volunteer opportunities in its shops and fundraising groups across the UK. You could be organising a dog show one day and designing a window display the next. The charity is appealing for enthusiastic students to lend a hand during the holidays and help raise vital funds for pets in need of vets.

“Volunteering is a fun way to make new friends and is a great way to become an active member of the community,” says PDSA Head of Volunteering, Janet Compton. “Anyone over 14 can volunteer for PDSA, so school children, college and university students can all do something positive with their holidays this year.”

Volunteering can enhance a young person’s CV, which is great for impressing universities and potential employers. Arranging fundraising events such as fashion shows and pub quizzes demonstrates good organisational skills and volunteering in shops builds up valuable communications and practical skills, which can make you stand out from the crowd.

Janet continues, “Benefits for students include gaining work experience, which can help secure employment; developing personal skills, which can help in all areas of their lives; and finally the knowledge that they are helping PDSA to treat sick and injured pets.”

Volunteering for a few hours or days a week is a great way to have a break from studying and makes the most of those idle summer months.

There are over 4,800 volunteers in PDSA’s shops, PetAid hospitals and fundraising groups across the UK. If you would like to join the team or for more information about volunteering, please contact PDSA’s National Volunteering Centre on freephone 0800 854 194 or visit www.pdsa.org.uk/volunteering
